| Corn Woman Rising |

| This is the second in the Corn Woman Series. I plan to cast the first of this series in bronze and it will be destroyed in the process so I wanted to make another with the same content. The Corn Woman/Mother, the giver of sustanance is for me a symbol of birth/ rebirth, live/ death. I use the image to refer to myself as one who feels herself rising upwards to receive the goodness of life's offerings. In this piece she is rising above the earth, being raised with the help of the ancestors whose hands are entwined and open in acceptance and giving. The ladders made of bones refer to the ancestors also and to the act of movement from one realm- or one form- to another. The double waitband carving is a reference to the carved pots of Nampeyo, the Hopi potter. | |||||||||||
