With this piece I evoke a feeling of security and contentment at having returned home to New Mexico. I was away from New Mexico for 13 years and all the while I longed to return home to this wonderful landscape and to the family and friends I have here. The dress form is made from a matrix of tree brances that end on the shoulders and several birds have landed on the branches. Where a neck would be, there is a bird's nest and surrounding the form is a lilac-colored strip of "dichos" (sayings) in Spanish, one of which translates to "If you have shelter and food, one needs nothing else. |
