A Little Bird Told Me

stoneware, oxides, glazes and acrylics

This small chair tells a story of my childhood. I was the oldest child of 6, four girls and two boys. My parents seemed to know most every misstep of their children, eventhough they were obviously so busy raising us. We thought we were getting away with things like hitchhiking or walking to the mall and hanging out, but we would invariably get home to find the parentals asking us where were were. We would lie of course, but a neighbor or auntie would have reported, so we would be caught in the lie. I would ask how they knew and they would always say-"A little bird told me". Here the bird head covers the head of the child, who wears a dress that relates her story. She doesn't realize that the story is there for everyone to view. The chair legs are made of bones, referring to history, and of cacti, referring to New Mexico and possibly to the "prickly" issue.
