Mariner
stoneware, oxides, glazes, acrylics, 39"T x 17"W x 12"D

When I am awake in the middle of the night, I often sit and gaze into the deep blue night sky and the constellations. With this piece I am the mariner, placing myself in communication with the universe. I am placing myself in direct presence of the earth's beginnings AND its future by the act of wearing a dress made of the night sky. The figure rises up towards a rain cloud to embrace the future and the past. The order and placement of the constellations are taken from the northern hemisphere's fall and spring sky. Wearing this mariner's dress I can chart my own course using the stars and the earth as guides.
