Querido

stoneware, oxides, glazes, acrylics-53" t x 19"w x 14"d

This a new piece just finished. It is part of an onging series on Dichos-Spanish sayings. The colorful butterflies and birds swirl around clouds and ladders on the female figure. This imagery recalls the transience of life-the ever changing elements and transitions of life. The birds and butterflies also refer to air and the atmosphere we breathe. The text in Spanish that rises from the bottom right and ends at the bottom left reads: "El bien, cuando mas querido, mas pronto se ve perdido". Translation is: We are closer to something just as we are about to lose it". The word at the center of that saying, Querido, rests at the top of the figure. Two birds are hlding onto the blue strands connected to the word, which means -beloved. Ladders also refer to the transitory nature of life, as one uses ladders to ascend or descend from one place to another and the empty red chair at the back, held up by a group fbees, is a hmage to lost loved ones.
