| Sacred Space |

Sacred Space contains several of my favorite symbols and stories. Clouds, the New Mexican sky, the land and corn, the Native Peoples all make up this piece, which is about my love of New Mexico-the peoples, the landscape, the sky and the magic of this place. Peeking through the tall stalks of corn, which are actually tall now in early August, are two Kachinas, one front and one on the back. One on the front is a Sio Hemis (Zuni Man) and the one on the back is a Ka-e Kachina, Corn Dancer. I like to use shifts of scale to reference magical time and here the corn stalks are giant and reach to the clouds, connecting the land with the sky. The figures seem small in he stalks but there presence is prominent. There are two dragonflies on this piece, symbols of maturity and change. |
