Stigma
SOLD
stoneware, glazes, acrylics, 39"T x 18"W x 11"D

This female form is self referential. The dress or mantle of the form is the color green-of growth gotten from the knowledge of my family's previously unknown ancestoral past-and is carved with a love poem in Hebrew entitled If I Were, by Ifram Najara. The love poem on the mantle is held onto the figure by branches, referring to a family tree. Under the mantle and on the "skin" of the female form are the raised scars of saint imagery, underscoring my family's current religious background, in the form of a stigma or scar-something that stays with one forever.
