Tiempo Perdido SOLD
Stoneware, Glazes, Acrylics, 53" high

Tiempo Perdido refers to the text that is in the lilac "ribbon" intertwining the form. ("El tiempo perdido no se recobra"= Lost time is never recovered.)This text refers to lost time on several levels: a forgotten time of the natural world and the remnents of a family history not told or acknowledged. The base of the female form is made of opposing natural symbols: waves of water refer to the trip over the Atlantic and to the new world, the cacti refer to the desert land here and in Spain and the bones refer to where my ancestors are buried, here and in Spain. The form reaches through the clouds and into the sky where the form is dressed as a Matadora, a bullfighter, a symbol of a fight to the death. There is a golden butterfly at the neck symbolizing a transformation of movememnt from one form or one world to another. My signature, a carving of the star formation Saggitarius, marks the back.
