| This sculpture was build as a memorial to my father-in-law who was very sick. While I watched his decline I witnessed him sitting in his chair constantly and assuming the form of the chair. I was working on a chair series at the time. The chair form functions simultaneously as the vehicle for the story telling and the story itself. The human form becomes blended with the chair and it surrounded with imagery with its life; a Celtic cross supports the form physically and symbolically, a range of carved images surround the form, scenes from Cape Cod, scenes from New York City including images of the Twin Towers, swimming fish, a compass, a wheel. All of these images are held to the form with tree branches, which refer to the family tree. | ||||||||||
