"Visitation"

Sold-Collection of the State of New Mexico, Art in Public Places Program
Stoneware, Glazes, Acrylics, Epoxy - 64" high

This sculpture was originally made as a memorial to my Grandmother and to all Grandmothers, which are so culturally significant in New Mexico, but when I finished it I realized that it was a self-portrait. I am the figure wearing a dress made up of images representing her life. With this dress I can be closest to her and live her memory.
The front of the dress has a large heart, tall flowers and a Guadalupe figure. On the back there are more oversized flowers, a New Mexico landscape and a cross. Inside the cross is a crossword that has the names of relatives and other words in Spanish; besso (kiss), brazos (arms), etc.
